There may have been a year in the '80's when I didn't buy anything newly released, when I was transitioning from listening to Top 40 radio to oldies and classic rock, but I've otherwise been acquiring music since 1979, starting on vinyl with "Parallel Lines" and the 45 of "Cars". There are plenty of reasons why, mostly due to lack of listening time and large backlog of purchases not yet listened to, but still it's making me feel a little old. This is not necessarily a condemnation of the music from that year (don't have any 2014 new releases either), but acknowledgment that I have hit that proverbial wall at age 44. I still listen to new music almost daily, but I don't count the CD's that come with my monthly Mojos and Uncuts as new purchases. Sadly, I must report that last year was the first in a lifetime of collecting music that I did not acquire a new release.
